RogerRoger began as a tool for financial professionals to manage their email better. However, the RogerRoger team quickly realized the biggest pain for financial professionals and customer-facing teams in many industries was capturing and acting on the next steps within email conversations between a company and its clients. Still, the team didn’t want to spend precious time and resources navigating complex email protocols to deliver a sync that could power its productivity platform.
“In the beginning, we faced a daunting challenge,” remarks Pegtel. “Building email sync in an application is complicated and time-consuming. When we founded RogerRoger we heard about a similar startup in the Netherlands that invested three million euros and two years to build an email-based CRM, only to go bankrupt. We didn’t want to make the same mistakes.”
Integrating a single email service provider is hard enough. But for RogerRoger to realize its vision, it needed a solution that could support all major email providers, be highly reliable, and scale with a growing customer base.
With a clear-eyed understanding of the challenges of building email integrations from scratch, the RogerRoger team sought to invest in a communications API platform that would allow them to conserve cost and go to market faster. The team first discovered a European-based “multi-channel messaging platform”, but realized that it lacked the speed and stability they needed to deliver a best-in-class solution for their customers.
“We wanted to work with an established partner in communications integrations,” explains Pegtel. “When we found Nylas, any discussion of alternatives was quickly killed. Using the Nylas Email API, we immediately built an MVP and closed our first customer. We appreciated the platform’s reliability and performance. To this day, our Nylas-powered capabilities are among the most reliable in our platform.”
RogerRoger’s first customer used Microsoft Exchange, an on-premise email provider that is notoriously difficult to integrate with. In Pegtel’s words, “If we didn’t have Nylas at this point, there was no way in the world we could’ve supported this customer or others with email service providers that require extensive development.”

The new API is well-structured and helps us deliver an even more performant and reliable user experience.”
Moving forward, the team at RogerRoger plans to expand its supported channels beyond email and social by offering calendar management and scheduling automation capabilities. “If you’re in sales or recruiting, scheduling meetings is a critical component of deal follow-up.
